What this tool answers
You need a first-pass welding cart capacity before buying a rolling welder cart. The calculator estimates required capacity as welder_lb + extras_lb, then names the smallest class on this site’s ladder (265, 350, or 400 lb) that clears the estimate. It is not a lift procedure, floor study, or substitute for manufacturer instructions.
The welder + extras screening rule
Required capacity = welder_lb + extras_lb. Include tank, cables, and tools that ride on the cart with the machine. Extras may be zero; welder weight must be greater than zero for a valid estimate.
Static vs dynamic rating
Listings may quote static and dynamic capacity differently. Confirm which rating applies to how you move and store the cart. Never exceed the nameplate for the load you intend to put on the cart.
Gas cylinders and chains
Secure gas cylinders with chains or the cart’s retention hardware. A loose cylinder is a tip and transport hazard. This site does not certify cylinder mounts or shop setups.
Class ladder on this site
Classes are returned as rated pounds: 265, 350, and 400 lb. The tool picks the smallest class whose rated_lb is greater than or equal to required_lb. Inputs are welder/plasma weight and extras weight in pounds.
When the answer is NO_MATCH
If required capacity exceeds 400 lb (for example welder 350 + extras 80 → required 430), this site returns NO_MATCH for its published class ladder. Typical next steps: a higher-rated industrial cart or a different work plan. Do not force an undersized consumer cart.
